Types of massage: how to choose the right one for you

7 min read Updated 5 Jul 2026 ESCAPE Thai Massage, Prague

Massage is one of the oldest ways to care for both body and mind — and there are many kinds. Each type has its strengths: one eases an aching back, another calms the mind, and another kick-starts recovery after sport. This overview will help you get your bearings and choose the massage that fits your needs precisely.

In short: for relaxation, choose oil and aromatherapy massages; for tension and pain, deep-tissue and targeted ones; after sport, a sports massage; and for all-over release, a traditional Thai massage. If you are unsure, we are happy to advise.

Frequently asked questions

Which massage is best for back pain?
A back, neck and shoulder massage or a traditional Thai massage works well, releasing overloaded muscles. For long-term problems we recommend consulting a doctor.
Which massage is best for stress?
An aromatherapy massage and an anti-stress head massage — they calm the nervous system and lift your mood.
What is the difference between a Thai and a classic massage?
A classic (Swedish) massage works with oil and long kneading strokes; a traditional Thai massage is performed through clothing, without oil, and combines pressure with stretching.
I do not know which massage to choose. Can you help?
Yes — tell us what you need (relaxation, pain relief, recovery) and our therapist will recommend the most suitable option.
