A relaxing oil massage with a scent to suit your mood

An essential oil to suit your mood and flowing, warm strokes over your whole body.

The therapist’s hands spread the oil over the guest’s back in long strokes

Aromatherapy pairs a gentle full-body oil massage with plant essential oils. Their scent acts directly on the brain centres for emotion and mood, so you choose it by what you need today: perhaps lemongrass, lavender, rosemary, chamomile or kaffir lime. The scents change with the seasons.

The therapist works with gentle, flowing strokes; the oil sinks into your skin and the scent slowly draws you into deep calm. We recommend this massage when you need to lift the stress off your shoulders and your mind, are having your first massage or spend your days at a desk. At our salon a few steps from Old Town Square, you are in the hands of therapists from Southeast Asia, trained at renowned schools there.

What you take home

  • A scent that melts stressThe essential oil wraps you in its scent, and the tension in your shoulders and mind slowly lets go.
  • A brighter moodFresh lemongrass or kaffir lime lifts you; you leave lighter, and smiling.
  • A calmer mindSoft lavender, quiet and slow strokes: your mind stops racing and you leave calmer.
  • Softer skinAfter the nourishing oil your skin is supple and stays gently scented long after.

How it works at ESCAPE

  1. Welcome and your choice of scentAt reception we welcome you with a drink that changes colour in front of you. Then you smell several essential oils and choose the one that suits you best.
  2. A full-body massage with your scentYou keep your underwear on (disposable underwear is ready if you prefer it) and lie under a towel; only the part of your body being massaged is ever uncovered. The therapist blends your chosen oil with a carrier oil and works it into your whole body with flowing strokes; just say the word for firmer or softer pressure.
  3. Warm tea to finishAfter the massage, take a moment to rest over a cup of warm tea. You are welcome to take a shower if you like.

If you are allergic to a scent, tell us and we will choose a suitable option, or go for the Thai oil massage with unscented oil. Please arrive 15 minutes early, so you can choose your scent at leisure.

the story behind it

Origins and tradition

The word aromatherapy was coined by the French chemist and perfumer René-Maurice Gattefossé, who published a book of that name in 1937. Thai has its own specialist term for it, sukhonthabambat, and two scents from our seasonal selection are ones Thais know from the kitchen and from tradition. Lemongrass, takhrai, belongs in tom yam soup. And in Thailand the juice of the kaffir lime, makrut, was traditionally used to wash hair and clothes.

Your questions about aromatherapy massage

What is an aroma massage?

Aroma massage is the everyday name for an aromatherapy massage: a gentle full-body oil massage. The therapist blends the essential oil you choose before the massage with a carrier oil and works it into your skin with flowing strokes. Your body lets go and the scent slowly draws you into deep calm.

Can I choose the scent?

Yes. Before the massage you smell several essential oils and, depending on your mood, choose the one you like best: perhaps lemongrass, lavender, rosemary, chamomile or kaffir lime. The scents change with the seasons.

What does an aromatherapy massage help with?

Above all, it helps to melt away stress and lift your mood. It suits people with desk jobs, first-time guests and anyone weighed down by fatigue or restless thoughts. The nourishing oil also leaves your skin supple.

How is it different from an oil massage?

An aromatherapy massage also works with the scent of an essential oil you choose yourself, and with its effect on your mood. The Thai oil massage uses unscented oil, so it suits anyone who does not get on with scents.

Are the oils suitable for sensitive skin?

We use quality oils free of parabens and artificial colourants, plus body lotion and balm where needed. If you have sensitive skin or are allergic to a scent, tell us in advance and we will choose a suitable option.

What exactly is an essential oil?

A volatile, fragrant liquid drawn from a plant by steam distillation or by pressing. In Thai it is nam man hom raheoy, literally ‘fragrant oil that evaporates’. It never goes on the skin on its own: for a massage it is always diluted in massage oil.

Why is the aromatherapy massage ideal for a first visit?

The pressure is gentle to medium, the strokes are slow and flowing, and you choose the scent yourself, with help from reception. You lie first on your front, then on your back, as the therapist works through your whole body from neck to feet. For a first visit we recommend 90 minutes.

Do I have to undress?

Yes, the oil goes directly on the skin. You keep your underwear on (disposable underwear is ready if you prefer it), and on the massage table we cover you with a towel, so only the part of the body the therapist is working on is ever uncovered. You don’t need to bring anything special; for details see What to bring to a massage.

How do I book, and how long is the massage?

You can choose 60, 90 or 120 minutes. Book online, by phone on +420 734 331 444 or via WhatsApp. Cancelling or changing your booking is free up to 24 hours ahead.

How much does an aromatherapy massage cost in Prague?

At the ESCAPE salon in Prague 1, an aromatherapy massage costs 1,890 CZK for 60 minutes, 2,390 CZK for 90 minutes and 2,890 CZK for 120 minutes. An essential oil of your choice, a welcome drink and warm tea after the massage are included. You’ll find all our other massages in the price list.

Can we come as a couple?

Yes. Choose the Thai Couples Massage: you lie side by side in one room and choose either the Traditional Thai Massage without oil or the Aromatherapy Massage with oil. From 3,490 CZK for both of you, and you can book a time for two online too.

How can I pay?

Online when you book (card, Apple Pay, Google Pay), or later at the salon by card or in cash (CZK or EUR). You can also pay with a gift voucher. Cash is 4% cheaper: the card fee we save goes to you.

Where can I find you?

You’ll find the ESCAPE salon a few steps from Old Town Square, at Elišky Krásnohorské 133/11, 110 00 Prague 1 (Josefov). The nearest metro station is Staroměstská (line A). We are open daily 10:00–22:00; please arrive 15 minutes early.

Yes. Buy a voucher for this massage, or credit of 2,000, 5,000, 10,000 or 25,000 CZK (from 5,000 CZK with 5–15% off). The PDF arrives by email right after payment.
