Authentic Thai massage without oil, through clothing
Stiff shoulders let go, the hips open up and the mind finally switches off.

Traditional Thai massage is done through comfortable, loose clothing and entirely without oil (which is why it is also called dry Thai massage), just as it is in Thailand. The therapist works with her palms, thumbs, elbows and feet along the ten energy lines (sen in Thai), alternating rhythmic pressure with passive stretching that feels like yoga.
Afterwards you feel as if you had just finished a yoga class, only the therapist did the work for you. It suits anyone whose neck, lower back and hips have stiffened after a day on Prague’s cobbles or from long hours at a desk, athletes who need a proper stretch, and everyone looking for a deeper stretch than an oil massage gives. In our salon a few steps from Old Town Square, you are massaged by certified therapists from Southeast Asia, trained at renowned schools there.
What you take home
- Releases a stiff backPressure along the energy lines loosens a lower back and neck stiff from days at the desk, and the relief comes before you even get up.
- A stretch like after yogaPassive stretching takes your hips, back and shoulders into positions you can’t reach on your own after long hours of sitting.
- Warm from the first minuteThe heated table and rhythmic pressure warm you from your feet to your neck, so you get up warmed through and full of strength.
- A mind switched offAs the pressure finds its rhythm, your breathing slows, your mind finally switches off and you leave with a calm you rarely feel.
How it works at ESCAPE
- Change and slow downAt reception we welcome you with a drink that changes colour in front of you and lend you a comfortable, loose outfit: T-shirt and trousers. No oil, no hurry.
- The therapist works the whole bodyYou lie on a heated table, and during the massage the therapist turns you onto your back, your front and your side; for some techniques you sit. Working from your feet upwards, she alternates rhythmic pressure from her palms, thumbs and elbows with passive stretching along the ten sen lines. You set the pressure: just say the word and she presses deeper or eases off.
- Warm tea to finishAfterwards you let your stretched-out body settle over a cup of warm tea. You are welcome to take a shower if you like.
Please arrive 15 minutes early so you can change without rushing. During pregnancy, choose the pregnancy massage.
a centuries-old tradition
Origins and tradition
In 2019 UNESCO inscribed nuad thai, traditional Thai massage, as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Its roots run far deeper: in 1455 a decree of King Trailokanat named a department of massage among six royal medical departments. At Bangkok’s Wat Pho it is recorded in 60 stone inscriptions and 80 images of hermits in stretching postures, the ruesi dat ton. The oil-free pressure and stretching you receive here, on a heated table, carry on that centuries-old tradition.
What guests wrote after their massage
“The massage itself was a perfect balance of deep tissue work and traditional Thai stretching techniques, leaving me feeling both relaxed and revitalized.”
“The staff are friendly, and the massage that I received from … (2hr traditional Thai massage) was exactly what I hoped for. She used excellent pressure throughout, and was responsive to my needs…”
Carrie P.“I had the traditional 60 minute thai massage and … was great! She was always checking in if everything was okay and I felt really relaxed after. Recommend!”

Your questions about traditional Thai massage
Do I have to undress?
No. Traditional Thai massage is done through clothing and entirely without oil: you simply change into a comfortable, loose outfit (T-shirt and trousers) that we lend you, so there is nothing special to bring. Over most of the body the therapist does not touch your skin directly, and you have a towel or blanket for warmth. After the massage you are welcome to take a shower.
Will the massage hurt?
It shouldn’t. The pressure is medium to strong and rhythmic, but never stronger than feels good to you. Just say so at any time and the therapist will press deeper or ease off.
How long a massage should I choose?
We recommend 90 minutes: more time for tight areas, more gradual transitions and more stretching. In 120 minutes the therapist works through the whole body without any rush and spends longer on the areas that need it. 60 minutes also covers the whole body with the main techniques and stretches.
Is traditional Thai massage suitable during pregnancy or with a health condition?
We don’t recommend it during pregnancy; choose the gentle pregnancy massage with unscented oil instead. If you have a cold or feel unwell, it’s better to postpone your massage. With a long-term health condition, ask your doctor whether massage is right for you. The same applies after recent surgery, with an acute injury or fracture, severe osteoporosis, blood clots or a serious heart, circulation or other medical condition; the therapist will then adapt the massage.
What does nuad thai mean?
Literally ‘Thai massage’: it is today’s official Thai name for the country’s traditional massage, once commonly called nuat phaen boran, ‘massage in the old way’. It grew out of folk care in the Thai countryside, where every village had its own massage healer. Thai tradition honours Jivaka, the Buddha’s personal physician, as the father of Thai medicine and massage.
Does Thai massage have anything to do with yoga?
Thai tradition and Indian yoga both speak of 72,000 lines running through the body, sen in Thai. Thai massage treats ten of them as principal, and three share their names with the nadis of yoga: Ida, Pingala and Sushumna. It is a traditional view of the body, not anatomy.
How much does a traditional Thai massage cost in Prague?
At the ESCAPE salon in Prague 1, a traditional Thai massage costs 1,690 CZK for 60 minutes, 2,190 CZK for 90 minutes and 2,690 CZK for 120 minutes. Clothes we lend you, a welcome drink and warm tea after the massage are included. You’ll find all our other massages in the price list.
