Sports massage: strong pressure for tired muscles
Strong, focused pressure loosens muscles tired from training or long hours sitting.

Sports massage goes straight to what feels tight. With targeted, deeper pressure the therapist works the overloaded muscle groups: she kneads and releases stiff fibres from your back down to your calves, right where you feel the tension after training.
As a recovery massage after sport it suits runners, cyclists, lifters and team players alike. It does just as much for anyone whose back has seized up from sitting at a desk: desk work shortens and stiffens the muscles much as a hard workout does.
In our salon a few steps from Old Town Square, you’re in the hands of therapists from Southeast Asia, trained at renowned schools there, and you decide how firm the pressure is.
What you take home
- Release after effortAfter training or a race, the therapist focuses on the muscles that worked hardest.
- Relief for a stiff backTargeted pressure works along your spine, and a back stiff from training or from sitting eases while you’re still on the table.
- Strength where it’s neededOn the hardest-worked spots the therapist adds her forearm or elbow and tunes the pressure exactly to you.
- A lighter stepYour muscles let go, and you get up from the table with a feeling of lightness all over.
How it works at ESCAPE
- Welcome and consultationWe welcome you with a drink that changes colour in front of you. You tell us which areas are bothering you and how hard you train. You keep your underwear on (disposable underwear is ready if you prefer it), and on the massage table we cover you with a towel, so only the part of the body the therapist is working on is ever uncovered.
- Targeted work on overworked musclesThe therapist focuses on the overloaded muscle groups, using sports or herbal oil and alternating deep kneading with targeted pressure on the knots, with her hands and fingers and, where needed, her forearm or elbow. Say the word at any time and she makes the pressure firmer or gentler.
- Warm tea to finishAfter the massage, take a moment to rest over a cup of warm tea. You are welcome to take a shower if you like.
Sports massage suits recreational and competitive athletes, before a race and after it. With a fresh injury or acute inflammation, please postpone it. Please arrive 15 minutes early.
the story behind it
Origins and tradition
Oil and massage have belonged to sport since antiquity: Greek athletes were oiled before and after contests by the aleiptai, ‘anointers’ who also advised them on training. Modern interest in sports massage took off at the 1972 Munich Olympics, where Finland’s Lasse Virén won the 5,000 and 10,000 metres and revealed that he had a deep-tissue massage every day. At Atlanta in 1996, massage therapists were for the first time an official part of the Olympic team caring for athletes.

Pressure your muscles will thank you for
Deeper pressure goes straight to sore, overloaded muscles. Stiff spots let go and your breathing slows as the therapist works from your back down to your feet. You get up from the table lighter and loose.

Your questions about the sports massage
When is the best time for a sports massage?
Most often 1–2 days after a hard effort, when you feel your muscles most. A lighter massage can come before a race too; just tell your therapist.
How long before a race should I book the massage?
Book a massage with strong pressure 2–3 days before the race, as you may still feel your muscles slightly the next day. Right before the start, choose only a lighter massage.
Will the massage hurt?
The pressure is deeper than in a relaxing massage, but never unpleasant. Just say so and the therapist adjusts it at once. After deep work you may feel your muscles slightly the next day, much as after training. Read more in Pain after a massage.
Can I come with sore muscles after training?
Yes, just tell your therapist: she tunes the pressure on the sore spots so it feels good. It is a release, not a treatment.
How often should I repeat it?
If you train regularly, we recommend a sports massage once a week to once every two weeks.
How do I book, and how long does a sports massage take?
We offer 60, 90 and 120 minutes. In 90 minutes the therapist can work through every overloaded area without rushing; choose 120 minutes after your hardest efforts. Book online, by phone on +420 734 331 444 or via WhatsApp.
How is it different from the Thai Oil Massage?
It flows much like the Thai Oil Massage, but the pressure is stronger, more focused and in places deeper. Instead of argan oil, the therapist uses a special sports oil or a herbal oil, with balm and lotion.
Which areas does a sports massage cover?
Your back, shoulders, neck, hips, glutes, thighs, calves and feet, depending on your sport and where you feel the tension. You start lying face down, then turn onto your back.
How much does a sports massage cost in Prague?
At the ESCAPE salon in Prague 1, a sports massage costs 1,990 CZK for 60 minutes, 2,490 CZK for 90 minutes and 2,990 CZK for 120 minutes. Sports or herbal oil, a welcome drink and warm tea after the massage are included. You’ll find all our other massages in the price list.
Can I have a sports massage with an injury?
With a fresh injury, acute inflammation or a fever, it’s better to postpone your massage. Please postpone it too with a suspected fracture, an acute infection or broken skin, or see a doctor first; we never put strong pressure on unexplained swelling or heavy bruising. Tell us about older problems before you start and the therapist will adapt the massage. Read more in When to postpone a massage.
How can I pay?
Online when you book (card, Apple Pay, Google Pay), or later at the salon by card or in cash (CZK or EUR). You can also pay with a gift voucher. Cash is 4% cheaper: the card fee we save goes to you.
Where can I find you?
You’ll find the ESCAPE salon a few steps from Old Town Square, at Elišky Krásnohorské 133/11, 110 00 Prague 1 (Josefov). The nearest metro station is Staroměstská (line A). We are open daily 10:00–22:00; please arrive 15 minutes early.
Can I give a sports massage as a gift?
Yes. Buy a voucher for this massage, or credit of 2,000, 5,000, 10,000 or 25,000 CZK (from 5,000 CZK with 5–15% off). The PDF arrives by email right after payment.
